Nitroglycerin Typically a patient that has a history of cardiovascular disease, may be prescribed Nitroglycerin. This powerful drug dilates blood vessels causing blood pressure to be lowered and decreasing workload on the heart which may eliminate chest pain. Always read and follow the prescription directions for use. Check the patient name and the expiry date of the medicine.
Assisting with heart medication – Nitroglycerine and ASA 1. Only assist a conscious patient that consents to your help. Check the medication for the patient’s name and the expiry date. 2. Check that the patient is not taking any medications that lower blood pressure such as those that treat erectile dysfunction. Taking nitroglycerine in the presence of these medicines can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure. 3. Check how many times the patient has already used the medication for this attack.
