6 Medical Emergencies

Diabetes A diabetic emergency can result from too much glucose (hyperglycemia) or too little glucose (hypoglycemia) in the body. A diabetic emergency presents as extreme irritability, confusion, or intoxication, but do not be mislead. This is a serious emergency and the patient needs help. The brain and body requires sugar, in the form of glucose, to provide energy. Normally, the body controls the amount of glucose that reaches the cells with insulin. But for a diabetic patient, there is either a problem with the production of insulin or a problem with how the body’s cells use the insulin. Diabetics control their condition by carefully balancing eating and exercise. Some diabetics need medication to help control their condition. Insulin can come in either pill or injection form.
