Primary Assessment ABC’s - Treat life threat Rapid body scan - Apply Direct Pressure to Bleeding Secondary Assessment • Bleeding – Maintain direct pressure with a gloved hand until bleeding is controlled • Apply a dressing as available, & maintain pressure • Bandage the wound with a pressure dressing/ bandage • Perform a secondary survey, expose and examine any injury found, work carefully to minimize pain and discomfort • Check circulation below the injury and get medical help if perfusion is impaired or absent • If circulation is impaired, re-bandage & reposition
Using Ice When using ice or other frozen material, never place it directly against the skin. Place the ice in a plastic bag and wrap the bag in a cloth or similar covering. Apply for 15 minutes on and 15 minutes off. Repeat as necessary.
