Signs and Symptoms Internal bleeding
• Any MOI that suggests severe force injury to the head, neck, chest, abdomen, or groin such as a car crash or a fall from height (fall from standing height constitutes trauma). • Penetrating injury to the head, neck, chest, abdomen or groin such as a gunshot, stabbing or impaled object. • Large bone fractures in the upper and lower limbs or pelvis. • Areas of discoloured skin, severe bruising, signs and symptoms of shock with no external bleeding.
Primary Assessment ABC’s - Treat life threat Rapid body scan Secondary Assessment
• History • Treat injury, treat for shock • Position for comfort, loosen tight clothing
• Cover and keep warm • Reassure and keep calm
Ongoing Care/Transport
• Monitor LOC and ABCs • Give nothing by mouth • Be prepared to provide CPR if breathing becomes ineffective or ceases Hand-Off and Documentation
