7 Bleeding, Wound Care and Trauma
Addressing an abdominal wound may be part of the primary or the secondary survey. • Expose the wound. • Control bleeding with direct pressure. 1. Dress and bandage the wound. 2. Use broad bandages or elastic bandages to keep firm pressure on a dressing. • Do not try to put organs back into the abdomen. • Moisten a dressing with saline or clean water and cover the protruding organs to prevent them drying out. 3. Secure the dressing without pressure on the wound. 4. Use broad bandages to maintain dressing adhesion If there are internal organs protruding from the wound:
