Muscle, Bone and Joint Injury Assessment and First Aid Scene Assessment - Scene Safety Call 911/Get Help/Get First Aid Kit/ Get an AED Determine the method of injury Support suspected head and spinal injury Primary Assessment ABC’s - Treat life threats Rapid body scan, support and steady any obvious fractures or dislocations found Secondary Assessment • Dress any obvious wounds and protect any protruding bones • Perform a secondary survey, expose and examine any injury found, work carefully to minimize pain and discomfort • Check perfusion below the injury and get medical help if perfusion is impaired or absent
Ongoing Care/Transport If medical help is coming
• Continue to steady and support any injured areas. • Monitor LOC, ABCs and perfusion below the injury • Reassess any care given If medical help is delayed or transport required • Immobilize the injured area • Rest, Ice, Splinting, Elevation • Monitor LOC, ABCs and perfusion below the injury • Reassess any care given • Be prepared to provide CPR if breathing becomes ineffective or ceases Hand-Off and Documentation
