Stage 3 – Final Labour The third stage of labour is the delivery of the placenta. After the baby is born, the uterus will begin to contract, or shrink. This pushes the placenta out of the uterus and vagina. This stage typically takes 10 to 20 minutes, but it is not unusual for it to take longer. Labour and birth are over once the placenta has been delivered.

First Aider in Action: Part 6 The coworker is able to tell you that the patient, Gregory, has been working outside in the heat all morning, and it has been over an hour since their last break when they rested and had some water. He says that he has known the patient for years and does not believe that he has any medical conditions. He also is able to confirm that there is no pesticide or fertilizer exposure. Gregory begins to stir and open his eyes. His colour is slightly better. Although the fanning and shade is drying some of the perspiration on his face, he is still sweating. Given the heat, you know this is a good sign. You ask Gregory if he can hear you, telling him who you are. What questions can you ask the patient?
