13./14. One at a time, check the legs. Start at the hip and work down to the knee, lower leg, ankle, and foot. 15. Ask the patient to wiggle their toes to assess motor function. Lightly grasp the patient’s foot to assess their sense of touch. Repeat the exam for the other leg. 16. One at a time check the patient’s arms. Start at the shoulder and work down to the elbow, lower arm, wrist, and hand. Ask the patient to wiggle their fingers to assess motor function. Lightly grasp the patient’s hand to assess their sense of touch. Repeat the exam for the other arm. 17. Assess the back of the patient. If you suspect possible spinal injury, then take precautions and examine the patient accordingly. (use 2 person log-roll for spinal precautions if help is available see pg. 53)
Look for any “medic alert” tags or bracelets. Typically they are found on a necklace, bracelet, anklet. or tattoo (see images below)
