3 Airway and Breathing

If the patient begins to lose consciousness stay composed and do not panic. • Carefully lower them to the ground, supporting their head and neck. • Activate 911, get help, get an AED. • Begin CPR with 30 chest compressions. • Open the airway and check the mouth for any foreign object. Try to remove any object you can see. Deliver two rescue breaths. • Continue CPR. Check the mouth for any foreign object before each attempt to deliver rescue breaths until the obstruction is cleared. 21 3
