3 Airway and Breathing
Make a fist with one hand and place it thumb side against the lower half of the breastbone. The breastbone is the bony structure in the centre of the chest, above where the ribs come together. Cover your fist with your other hand. Give up to five brisk thrusts, forcibly pressing inwards only. Each thrust should be given with the intention of dislodging the obstruction.
Small Person Choking Abdominal thrusts to a person much smaller than you, such as a child, must be done at the correct height. Providing abdominal thrusts to a person much smaller than you is done by kneeling behind the patient so you are at the correct height.
