Taking over CPR from another person You may be needed to take over CPR from another person for a number of reasons. Providing effective CPR is a tiring job and the person may need to be relieved. The person may not have training and be doing compression-only CPR or they may not be doing it effectively. Whatever the reason, the procedure is the same. • Identify yourself as a first aider and/or trained in CPR. • Confirm medical help and an AED have been summoned. • If you take over or assist with CPR, then do not use the same barrier device (pocket mask, face shield) as the other rescuer(s)
An infant’s head is proportionately large compared to the rest of their body. This causes the head to tilt forward when the infant is on their back. When doing CPR, thin padding (if available) under the shoulders can help keep the airway open.
