7 Bleeding, Wound Care and Trauma

Ear Injuries Bleeding from damage to the outer structure of the ear is usually mild. Bleeding from inside the ear can indicate a serious issue. 1. Apply an absorbent dressing over the ear and 2. bandage it lightly in place. If no neck or spine injury is suspected and other injuries allow, position the patient to allow blood to drain from the ear. If the blood from the ear is mixed with a light yellow fluid, suspect a skull fracture and begin treatment (See Muscular, Bone and Joint Injury, Chapter 8).
