7 Bleeding, Wound Care and Trauma
Extruded eye A blow or other injury can cause the eye to be partially or completely out of the socket. • Do not try to put the eye back in the socket. • Gently cover the eye with a clean dressing moistened with water or saline. Cover the other eye. • Lightly tape or bandage the dressings in place. • Get medical help immediately.
Never • Never press or rub the eye. • Never try to remove foreign objects stuck to or embedded in any part of the eye. • Never use cotton swabs, tweezers, or anything else to remove an object from the eye. Cotton swabs should only be used on the eyelid. • Never try to remove contact lenses unless there is rapid swelling, medical help is delayed, or in the case of chemical exposure, the contacts did not come out with flushing.
