7 Bleeding, Wound Care and Trauma

SKILL

Hand bandage Once bleeding is controlled, and as long as the injury permits, bandage the hand in its anatomical, or normal relaxed position. 1. Place a bulking dressing or bandage in the palm. This padding supports the hand in a relaxed, cupped position. 2. Apply a narrow bandage over the dressing and padding. Completely cover the dressing and padding, providing gentle even pressure across the entire hand. 3. Secure the ends of the bandage with a reef knot, fastener or tape. Tuck any loose ends.
