7 Bleeding, Wound Care and Trauma
Leg Bandage
Arm or Leg bandage Once the bleeding is controlled, bandage an arm or leg securely. • Use a narrow bandage. Wrap the bandage around the limb making sure to extend above and below the dressing. • Bandage should apply even pressure across the entire wound surface. Preventing or reducing movement of the injured hand, arm, foot, or leg reduces bleeding and helps protect the wound. In many cases it can be helpful to immobilize a limb as per a muscle or joint injury (See Chapter 8, Muscle, bone, and joint injury).
