7 Bleeding, Wound Care and Trauma

4. Bring the twisted end behind and across the back to the opposite shoulder. 5. Adjust the position of the arm and tie the ends of the sling together with a reef knot. Pad under the knot.

Tubular Sling The tubular sling has more steps to tie but is a very secure and compact sling that helps immobilize as well as support an injury. Support the injured arm across the chest with the fingers pointing at the opposite shoulder. 1. Using an open triangle bandage, place it over the forearm and hand with the broad point extending past the elbow and a long narrow end over the shoulder on the uninjured side. 2. Support the arm and bring the base of the bandage under the injured limb, creating a pocket for the full length of the forearm and hand. 3. Gather the ends of the bandage at the elbow and twist them together, closing the sling around the injured limb at the elbow.
