7 Bleeding, Wound Care and Trauma

Summary • Controlling bleeding and providing wound care is a primary role of the first aider. • Assess the method of injury and the patient carefully for all possible injuries. • Activate 911 and get help for all but minor wounds. • Always remain aware of scene safety and ensure an open airway and adequate breathing. • Assess any interventions frequently to ensure they are still working. • Be aware of developing signs and symptoms of shock and treat accordingly.
