8 Muscle, Bone and Joint Injuries
Elbow injury • Expose the injury. Dress any open wounds, tenting over any protruding bone ends. • If the arm will bend, use a sling to position and immobilize the joint. • Pad underneath the arm to position it comfortably. • Secure the sling with broad bandages to reduce movement of the injured limb. • If the arm will not bend, secure it to the body with broad bandages. Pad as necessary. • Check perfusion below the injury frequently.
