8 Muscle, Bone and Joint Injuries

Sometimes the patient will be more comfortable holding the injured limb their self. Always let the patient guide you in positioning a limb for comfort. Use padding in the palm of the hand or under the arm or leg to help position and pad the limb. Use ice, a cold pack, or cold compresses to help reduce pain and swelling at the injury site.

Tubular Sling and Splint

Splinting principles are to immobilize “above” and “below” the injury.
