9 Other Emergencies
Responders should always activate 911 services and stay with the person until help arrives. First aid and naloxone administration is not a substitute for definitive medical care. All people who receive naloxone (narcan) should access professional medical care. Administering Nasal Narcan (4mg)
depression in a person with an opioid related life threatening emergency. To adminster naloxone nasal spray follow these steps: 1. Assess responsiveness and check for signs of overdose. Call 911. If breathing, prepare narcan nasal spray. If not breathing begin CPR and AED. 2. Hold the NARCAN Nasal Spray with your thumb on the bottom of the plungerand your first and middle fingers on either side of the nozzle. 3. Tilt the person’s head back and provide support under the neck with your hand. Gently insert the tip of the nozzle into one nostril, until your fingers on either side of the nozzle are against the bottom of the person’s nose. 4. Press the plunger firmly to give the dose of NARCAN Nasal Spray. Remove the NARCAN Nasal Spray from the nostril after giving the dose and place the patient into the recovery position.
