9 Other Emergencies

• Assess the vagina for bleeding. If bleeding is severe the baby may be in danger of bleeding back through the umbilical cord and out through the placenta. Tie off the umbilical cord and keep the baby at the level of the vagina. First Aider in Action: Part 7 Gregory responds to you and answers your questions, saying that he had been working and then suddenly felt dizzy. He has no allergies or illness, is taking no medication, and last ate a light breakfast 6 hours ago. Gregory’s coworker has a water bottle and you ask for it, encouraging Gregory to drink. Just as you are about to move the patient indoors an ambulance arrives. As the paramedics approach you quickly run over the events in your head in preparation to handover the patient. What will you tell the paramedics?
