9 Other Emergencies

Try to have the patient refrain from washing or using the bathroom until they have been seen by medical personnel. Notify police services any time you suspect an assault. Assess the scene carefully. If you suspect any danger to yourself or the patient, remain at a safe distance and notify the police. When providing aid, remain aware of the scene and avoid tunnel vision. Drugs and Alcohol Intoxication A drug is any substance, including alcohol, that causes an effect in the body. Use of illegal drugs and improper use of prescription medication or alcohol, especially when combined, can cause wide ranging and unpredictable behaviour as well as lasting physical harm to the patient.

Do not presume alcohol or drug use in a patient without assessing the scene and the history of the patient carefully.
