9 Other Emergencies

Suicidal behaviour Anytime there is a threat of suicide it must be taken seriously. A person who threatens to commit suicide is experiencing a psychological crisis and may have an underlying mental illness. Give first aid for general psychiatric emergencies and any other injuries found. Do not leave the patient alone. Remove any objects that the patient may use to harm themselves. Provide ongoing care until hand-off to medical personnel.
