1 Introduction to First Aid
Vital Vocabulary abandonment – When a first aider leaves their patient and/or stops providing aid. abuse – Any harm done to anyone by a person in a position of trust and/or authority. acute stress reaction – A psychological condition that occurs in response to a stressful or traumatic event. aural distortion – Not hearing people sounds properly or at all. consent – Permission to help the patient critical incident – These occurrences may include mass casualty incidents, serious injury, or traumatic death, and/or injured and ill children.
Summary 1. First aid is about preserving life, preventing further harm and promoting healing and recovery. 2. Obtaining consent, using reasonable skills within your knowledge and training is the responsible thing to do for a patient requiring help. 3. Maintain a calm and confident demeanor in controlling stress during an emergency situation. 4. Maintaining personal protection, getting help quickly and activating 911 is an efficient way of providing ongoing care to a patient.
