poison or toxin – Any substance that causes harm when absorbed by the body. heatstroke – A condition that occurs when the body becomes overwhelmed by a hot environment and can no longer get rid of the excess heat. Body temperature rises very quickly, up to 41°C (106°F), and tissue begins to be destroyed. heat cramps – Painful muscle cramps that occur after vigorous exercise or strenuous labour. heat exhaustion – A condition caused by a decrease in blood volume as the result of loss of water and electrolytes through heavy sweating. hypethermia – A heat injury where the body’s core temperature reaches or rises above 38.3°C (101°F).

hypothermia - A cold injury where the core temperature falls below 35°C and progressive loss of body heat begins. NOTES:
