2 PREmergency Scene Management
What emotions do you think you will feel in relation to this incident? You will probably experience increased emotions from the adrenaline and excitement of any emergency. This emergency turned out well. Although you would rather Dylan had not been hurt at all, your response and the care you provided were appropriate and correct. You where able to observe that many of the things you did for Dylan are the same as the professionals do. The paramedics even thanked you for your help. This was a good First Aid experience. What do you need to consider when you tell people about the incident? Wanting to talk about your experience is quite normal. As you tell people what happened, you must be sure to protect patient confidentiality. You must not pass on any personal or identifying information about your patient to anyone not directly involved in their care.
If you don’t have writing tools, what are some other ways of recording a patient’s vital signs? You should always attempt to record vital signs. If you do not have something to write with and on, then ask if anyone else at the scene does. Information can be recorded with the ‘Notes’ or ‘Voice Recorder’ feature on a cell phone as well. Why did the paramedics do a secondary assessment before transporting Dylan? Before transporting any trauma patient without an immediate life threat, a secondary assessment is always performed. In this case, the paramedics performed the scan, treated the injury, and secured the spine before they started transport.
