2 PREmergency Scene Management
responsiveness – The way a patient responds to external stimuli including verbal and physical stimuli. SAMPLE – A brief history of the patient’s condition to determine signs and symptoms, allergies, medications being taken, prior and pertinent medical history, last oral intake of food and water, and the events leading up to the incident. scene size up – A step in the PSM process that involves a quick assessment of the scene and provides information on scene safety and the MOI/NOI before you enter the scene and begin patient care. secondary scan/full body scan – A systematic head to toe exam of a patient performed during the secondary assessment on a patient who has experienced a significant method of injury or unconsciousness.
