• Extend the bandage above and below the joint, exerting even pressure across the injury. • Secure the bandage ends on the outside of the limb to minimize patient discomfort.

Knee or elbow bandage Knee and elbow joints typically have a slightly bent anatomical position. This natural angle of the limb can make securing a dressing difficult and the bandage uncomfortable to the patient. 1. Use a broad bandage wide enough to cover the joint. 2. Lay the broadest part of the bandage over the knee or elbow. 3. Bring the ends of the bandage around, behind the joint and slightly above or below the inside of the joint. 4. Angling the bandage away from the inside of a joint reduces uncomfortable pressure on this area. SKILL
