8 Muscle, Bone and Joint Injuries
Cervical collars Cervical collars are rigid plastic collars used to keep a patient’s head and neck in a neutral in-line position. A cervical collar is used by medical personnel whenever there is a suspected spinal injury.
Great care must be taken when applying a cervical collar and doing so incorrectly can result in severe injury and permanent disability or death to the patient. Training in the use of a cervical collar is required to ensure proper sizing, placement, and application.
