8 Muscle, Bone and Joint Injuries First aid Splinting a Knee • Steady and support the injured leg.

• If medical help will be delayed or you need to prepare the patient for transport, you will need to splint the knee. 1. Pad the splint and gently position it under the leg. 2. Position the bandages, two above and two below the knee. • Secure the splint to the leg. • Check perfusion below the injury frequently. Adjust bandages and splints as necessary.
