8 Muscle, Bone and Joint Injuries

First Aider in Action: Part 6 Meghan takes over steadying the patient’s head and the paramedics begin treatment. While one paramedic begins confirming Veronica’s injuries and vital signs, the other prepares splints and a backboard. As you watch, the paramedics put a cervical collar on Veronica and apply splints to her wrist and ankle, checking perfusion before and after. Meghan then counts to three and they roll the patient, checking her back for D.O.T.S. before they lower her onto the backboard. Meghan steps back and joins you on the side as the paramedics quickly secure the patient to the backboard and then to the stretcher. As the paramedics begin to wheel Veronica away, a mall security guard walks up to you and Meghan, asking for your information for their report. Why did the paramedics put the cervical collar on before the splints?
