9. What questions can you ask the patient? All patients are asked the history of the event and the SAMPLE questions. In this case you would focus your assessment on a heat illness. 10. What will you tell the paramedics? Provide the paramedics with your name and training, the events you witnessed, signs and symptoms of the patient, and a description of any aid provided.

6. What will you focus on in the secondary assessment? The secondary assessment will focus on vital signs and determining the patient’s level of consciousness. 7. What additional aid can you provide now based on your assessment? General first aid for an unconscious patient includes loosening clothing to help breathing and circulation, monitoring the ABCs and providing aid for shock. 8. What questions can you ask the patient’s coworker? The history leading up to the event and general health of the patient are questions a coworker may be able to answer.
