10 Lifting and Moving

• Slide your arms under the patient’s shoulders and armpits from behind. Use a hand on the patient’s chin to steady and support the head and neck. • With your other hand on the patient’s wrist as shown, rotate the patient slightly towards you so their head rests on your shoulder. • Lift the patient and rotate them from the car as a unit. Avoid twisting any part of the spine. • Pull the patient to an area of safety, supporting the head and neck in a neutral and in-line position.
