Transporting a patient There may be times when you need to transport a patient to medical help. This could include helping to transport a friend or coworker with minor injuries, or it can be due to a remote location far from help with no way to summon emergency services. Even in areas with emergency services, help can be delayed and rapid transport may be required for a critically injured or ill patient. Consider the decision to transport carefully. Assess the patient’s condition and the time it will take for medical help to arrive. If you decide to transport, be aware that the physical act of transport may worsen the patient’s condition. Plan how you will provide care during transport. You may have better resources for ongoing care, such as shelter and warmth, at your location. Sending someone for help may be the better choice.
When transporting a patient, take the time to gather available resources to make the transport the most supportive and comfortable method you can. Stretchers Stretchers are used to transport a patient who has an injury or illness that prevents them from walking. Many different types of commercial stretchers are available, including both rigid and semi-rigid designs. Always pad a stretcher for comfort and use padding to fill in the natural hollows between the body and the stretcher. stokes basket stretcher
