2 PREmergency Scene Management
Last oral intake – When did the patient last eat or drink? This may be the cause of the complaint such as a food allergy. This is also important medical information for the next level of care. Events prior to the incident. What was the patient doing leading up to the onset of their complaint?
Signs and Symptoms – Signs are objective conditions that can be seen, heard, felt, or smelled by you or others. Symptoms can only be felt by the patient and described. Observe the patient’s condition. Ask the patient what they are feeling. Allergies – Is the patient allergic to any medication, food, or substance? Allergies may have caused the patient’s condition. Medications – Is the patient taking any medication, for this or any other condition? What has the patient taken in the last 24 hours? Has any prescribed medication not been taken? Past medical history – Refers to pertinent history of medical, surgical, or trauma events. Has there been any recent illness or injury? Is there a family medical history that applies to this incident? Does the patient have any surgical history that may indicate other relevant history?
